Mark has been riding and playing with horses for more than 29 years...gaining experience anywhere and everywhere he could. He started off trail riding and roping with friends, and through those connections started training horses along side some of his friends. His passion for foundation training emerged and he volunteered with the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), what an experience that was. He stayed with them for 4 years helping with adoptions, transport and eventually doing demo's on his mustangs that he had trained. His passion and talent for colt starting and problem horse training continued to grow, and he sought out more information and knowledge from Pat and Linda Parelli, Carol Coppinger, Dan and Gretchen Thompson, Buck Brannaman, Martin Black, Bill Dorrance, and Ray Hunt to name a few, and he continues to learn all he can from the horses he works with as well. Over the years he's become more experienced with roping, cow working, ranch work, trail riding/camping and trailer loading...but his talent and love for young horse development has always taken his heart. He loves giving horses a solid foundation and helping prepare them for whatever they may encounter in their future or for whatever goals their human partner may have. He exposes his training horses to riding in the open as well as in the arena, takes them out on trails, he ponies them off of other horses, helps them build confidence in rope handling, dragging things, negotiating obstacles on the ground as well as under saddle, he tracks cows, and tries to take them out and about to other places to ride to help them deal with the stress of traveling and being in a new place. His quiet, steady energy is empowering for the horses and humans as they grow calmer, smarter, braver and more athletic under his tutelage.
Mark has several of his own horses that he continues to develop a solid foundation on. He enjoys working cows, team-roping, cow sorting, and anything with a purpose! He has trail ridden and camped with his horses all over NC, SC, GA, VA, FL, TN and CO. He started the Parelli program in 2005 and has progressed into level 4 with several horses. Mark is currently NOT endorsed by Parelli to teach or start colts, he's a student of the program and can use his experience to help you and your horse get where you want to go!
